There’s nothing I love quite more than the Christmas holiday season. And while this may sound like a gross and ignorant generalization, I’m just going to say it. Because this is my blog, after all. That nothing bad ever happens during the holidays (or the month of December, really) and it’s always the happiest time of the year (for me, anyway). *promptly knocks on wood*
I love the cool, crisp winter air..gingerbread cookies and hot cocoa in front of a warm fireplace..crackling firewood..crunching leaves..cinnamon..peppermint mochas at Starbucks..cheerful Christmas music chiming down every street and in every store..mothers rushing to get their houses ready for guests and messy children..sensationally mouth-watering meals to be prepared, smelled and savoured..oh, and well, I guess my birthday is 3 days after Christmas – but I’m sure that has absolutely nothing to do with it.
This year, I won’t be spending it with my family for the very first time, which naturally makes me a little sad. It’ll be the first Christmas I’m spending on my own, and by on my own I mean with my practically-second-family on the beach in Puerto Vallarta. I know, I know, shut up Carly.
How could I possibly be complaining?!
While I am fully aware of how lucky I am to get to spend the holidays anywhere and with anyone at all, nothing’s quite the same as Christmas with my own family. We like to go BIG for the holidays. The décor, the lights, the food, the blaring Christmas music through the house’s PA system that used to annoy the hell out of me as a kid but I now adore, Christmas shopping and especially simply spending time with my mom to make up for all those years as a bratty teenager.
Try as I may, nothing I do ever compares to the warmth, joy and happiness I feel spending the holidays at my parents’ house. Also probably because Vancouver isn’t exactly the most festive of cities – in comparison to say, Singapore, Hong Kong, NYC, Paris etc.
So when I saw this wonderful little holiday ad for H&M, and it put a huge smile on my face, I knew I had to write, share and post about it.
I’m not sure what it is I love about it exactly. I think it’s the essence of it and all the different elements pulled together. The glitter, the glam, the happiness, the upbeat tunes, gowns, big hair, Lady Gaga, Tony Bennett, Sean O’Pry (meow), the beautifully dressed women and dapper looking men, its tribute to the 20s. H&M got it right this year and on the plus side, I guess I know where I’m going Christmas shopping now! Ah, the power of advertising.
So here it is: H&M’s Magical Holidays featuring Lady Gaga & Tony Bennett, with small appearances by Sean O’Pry, Joan Smalls, Sasha Pivarova, Charlotte Carey, Armando Cabral and Miles McMillan.
